What is KAL-Tech —

It is very clear that school leadership in the 21st Century will require new vision. The Kansas State Board of Education recognizes the need to strengthen and focus the vision of our school leaders. By establishing a firm commitment to the preparation and continuing professional development activities of school leaders the education leadership in Kansas can bring about the kinds of whole system change that will ensure that "every child has a caring, competent, and compassionate teacher."

The Kansas Academy for Leadership in Technology (KAL - Tech.), is designed to address the major issues involved in creating and strengthening effective leadership for tomorrow's schools today. The Academy training will address best practice and innovation in school planning and improvement efforts, enhancing learning and student achievement, and the integration and effective use of information technologies. Together with a professional mentor, each Academy participant will join and participate in a Distributed Learning Organization meeting with peers in a forum for continuous learning. Each will develop an Individualized Action Plan that will integrate instructional technology into their schools existing School Improvement Plan.

Districts are encouraged to send a leadership team which includes teacher leaders.

An overview of the KAL-Tech program is available here in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.  The free Adobe Acrobat reader is available here.

The Mission“KAL-Tech will develop an ongoing, sustainable learning community of all Kansas school administrators that develops and maps a vision and plan for systemic change through technology integration into our schools and promotes the future of education now”.
